Possible rod alternative for small cams?
 

Hi All,

Just saw an interesting device whilst surfing the 'bay. Recently there has been a surge in off the shelf parts for the diyer to tinker with, from the screen holders to the macro tubes and screen choices etc. However, rods , which are generally regarded a necessity, are a bit too cumbersome for many and a bit pricy for most.

For a small cam, I reckon a variation on the theme of the following

might fit the bill. If the thread size was say 52mm and the travel on the camera mount was longer, then it might provide suitable support for the plethora of compact adapters which are taking shape out there.

So, does anyone know of any variations more suited to our purposes in production?

Instead of purchasing macro tubes and this device you have mentioned the proposed housing Im offering is an all-in-one solution that offers strength, robustness and a smooth finish.

Where exactly is the 15mm rod support on this device you show? Isnt it just a support for the macro tubes? If so it will still put stress on the tubes and lenses as its not thick enough.

That sounds very exciting.
Do you have any more images and a guess as to what the projected cost is looking like?

I was merely highlightling the possibility of such a device for those who have neither the inclination nor funds to use a rod based system.
The versatility of such a system looks strikingly suitable for the purposes of relieving the stress from the camcorder filter threads which after all is the primary purpose for those employing a rod based system anyhow.

However, in its present guise, it clearly would not fit the bill.
