Low Cost Rods
Anyone have a direct link to these low cost Cavision rods mentioned in the Shootout article http://dvxuser.com/articles/35/ for the Letus35 Flip. What are the cheapest but well-made rods available?

Are these the rods recommended in the article? I need to stop answering my own questions. $159... anyone know of any cheaper? |
just build your own...
get some 15mm (about 9/16") aluminum dowels at home depot and use a die to thread the ends. Make to end caps with 9/16" holes 60mm (2.36" - 2 23/64") on center apart and throw a nut on each end of the rods, put on the end caps and another nut. $15 cost, half an hour of work. Then just have to find or make a mounting plate for the camera...all the other standard rod mount stuff should just clamp on. If you can find a camera mount for < $100 you've already saved money...but you can probably make one for < $15. Camera thread is 1/4" - 20, have fun. |
Just a tip...if you can, use stainless tubing. Aluminum oxidizes in air and will leave black oxide on your fingers, clothes, camera etc.
