Letus35 and Sony HC-1 test...
Hi there, I just got my Letus-35 and I have to say it is really nice thing.
Simple, light, and a really nice short DOF! I have test it on the Canon XM-2 and now on my Sony HC-1 HDV. Looks really good eccept that I got some static grain over the picture... yea yea the vibration is on. But there is a small static grain anyway over the picture, like a static thin filter. You see it if you pan or move infront of the camera. Please take a look and advice me what to do. try this
try making sure your shutter on on Only 60, and play around with your video camera aperture... then if this is still a problem try turning down your sharpness on the video camera. I have a PDX 10 and i had to figure out what settings would be best.. You can always sharpen in post a bit as I do..hope this helps...

Great face for film! Is that the Letus35 or Letus35A?
The only thing that bothered me was the look of the logo on your jacket, when it's out of focus. |

It should be the latest L35 version, I got it from QL this week. BR Carl |

Apart from the problem you mentioned, the footage looks great. What did you use to deinterlace it?
Also, with the HC1, do you need to use a 58mm to 37mm adapter and zoom in to avoid the vignetting around the corners? I remember reading a report here once before about that happening with the HC1. I have a HC1 myself and have been thinking about getting a Letus35 |
The static grain is not from the GG. It is dust on the acromat or on the PCX condenser lens. Clean both carefully and repeat your test.
I had the same problem. But after cleaning both the acromat and the condenser the static grain dissapeared. |
Looks good! How much color correction Carl?
What lens and aperture? Thanks. |

because I did not found any 37-58 ring that day. I also had to zoom in. The Letus35 is for sure a cool thing. All the best Carl |

The Letus35 is for sure a cool thing, but maybe I have to clean it even more to get around the static grain all over the picture; it´s not dust; it´s more of a reflection of the GG-grain all over the picture as a very thin "filter". You can see it when pan or objects are moving; then you feel the thin static grain as a very thin but irritating "filter". If you resize the clip you see it. I will start to clean it again, and try again, and hopefully it look good. Thanks. Carl |

you can see the thin grain all over the picture. Anyway; I used a Nikon 50-1,8. The package become really compact. About 10% more contrast and some warmer curves. The Letus give a really nice short DOF. Thanks. Carl |
Carl,
Could you save/post a frame from the footage instead? |
Carl, try with 1 battery and using wire to short the second one to see if it's any better, thanks.

Quyen, in another post I read here once, you wrote that you were working on a version of the Letus35 specifically for the HC1. Do you have any more details about that? How would it be more suited to the HC1 than the normal version Carl's using?
