Gev's oscillating device
Any one no where I can find rings like this? They look like flanges, but finding them in aluminum seems very difficult.

What rings are you talking about Greg?
|
Hello Gev! Sorry I guess I could have been a lot clearer. I meant these rings in (maybe rings is the best way to phrase it).

Oh okay I see...
Well I wish there was a place that sold these cause I would have bought them too! This was very tedious to make... It started as a circle piece of aluminum that I got from a junk yard. I used 2 hole saws for metal to make the inner circle. I made the smaller hole first, the size of my ground glass, then with the bigger hole saw, but not all the way just enough so the ground glass sits in there. (check out the pictures and look at the hole you will understand). I then marked the triangle type of pattern and then just used a roto drill bit to make a rough cut and take out the basic shape. Take a look at these. http://www.papalico.com/rotoDrill1.JPG http://www.papalico.com/rotoDrill3.JPG After that I filed and sanded down the shape to detail. It took a long time to get it even and smooth. The reason for the shape is to make the piece lighter. You dont have to make the pattern you can just make the hole in the middle with a hole saw bit and a drill press. Also if you make any sort of pattern or design make sure that it is even all around because if its not even on one side then it wont be balanced. Doing it by hand takes a while to get it even on all sides.... Good Luck Gev |
I have a hobby plastic injection. Can it be made by ABS plastic? It's lighter and durable too.
|
Yeah sure you can use ABS....The material doesn't matter as long as it is light and strong.

Thanks for the response Gev, looking at it again it makes perfect sense.
