Mini35 > 35mm Print
I searched the forums, and it wasn't covered in the Mini35 FAQ...
Has any Mini35 footage ever been transferred to a 35mm print? I'm curious as to the output, mostly wether or not doing so would be detrimental, or simply redundant. If neither, then I'd be interested in seeing an example, if any is available. |
I'm sure it has been transferred, but if so I'm sure not many would admit it if you know what I'm driving at.
I don't see any benifit to transferring mini35 miniDV footage to 35mm print, other than obviously for exhibition purposes. Depending on the transfer method you could achieve motion characteristics closer to that which is found in 35mm film (24fps) which will pull off the whole film effect even more but this can be done in post production to your miniDV footage anyway, so I don't see that as reason enough to transfer your footage. Especially at $290USD/minute. If the last short film I made using the mini35 gets accepted to some of the film festivals I entered this year I will be transferring my film to 35mm print for exhibition and using these guys which are local for me here in Toronto, www.sohodigital.com. I'll definitelty post a message based on my experience. |

This is what I had initially assumed. Thanks for the reply, and keep us posted on your progress. I'd still be interested in seeing the result of such a transfer. |
35mm prints
Any updates on 35mm prints blown up from the mini35 shot film?
|
I've blown DVX/mini35 footage up to 35mm. DVFILM has the footage on their demo reel, which they make available to send to anyone who wants to screen it and see the results (but I believe they ask for a $300 deposit to make sure they get it back!)

Guys
Does anybody know of a scenario where a Pro35/HDCAM combo has been used, and if so, successfully blown up to 35mm?
