Mustache?
I thought I remember at least one of our members discussing a custom windscreen for a handy cam. I am thinking of getting the monster fur at Wal-Mart, Jo Ann's, etc. and creating what will look like a mustache on my new HC7. Some contact rubber cement around the mic and adhere the fur over it to kill some of the awful wind noise those in camera mics always pick up.
Anyone have success with this or is it a "hair" brained scheme? |
the fur doesn't cut as much wind as the fabric it's attached to. The space between the mic and the barrier is extremely important as well.

Maybe a piece of foam between then too?

If there is no cage and fabric, then foam becomes important.

This seems like a weird area to be trying to save money.

Marco,
You know of a mic muff for a built-in speaker set in a Sony HC7? |
Ah, apologies. It didn't occur to me that you couldn't just buy wind protection. There are a number of products designed to slip over the built in mic of most cameras, but the Sony mic doesn't look like it protrudes enough.
