YouTube has any number of gun enthusiasts demonstrating their hobby. Funny how the actual sounds don't sound like gunshots in the movies. Why not just use midi? GM 121-128 are sound effects including gunshots. Adjust for calibre, load, barrel length in your DAW.

Oh okay. I read that the for the movie Heat (1995), they used the real gunshots that were recorded live during shooting. But in Heat, the gunshots sound so much better than other live gunshots that are real. Do they just do a lot of post processing? But the director said himself, that he felt that the recorded gunshots, sounded better, than the post effects that the audio team was going to go with originally.

So if that's the case, maybe it is better to use live recorded gunshots, as a baseline, and then add post effects to it?

I have been watching YouTube videos, because I got a bee in my Bonnet about how WW1 and WW2 German automatic pistols actually worked. In just a few videos, there were so many different bangs - the countryside ones with reflections from distant things, range shots with sound treatment, close, far, you name it - and all of those could be so easily used for this kind of thing.
