+1 on the problems with dual mono as Greg and Rick and Richard have explained. I would never do it unless one was really for ambience. I probably wouldn't even do it then but would record ambience separately with a mic quite far from the speaker.

Not out of phase, some comb filtering which could be acoustically induced. If it sounds good to you, so be it Kathy.
