Sennheiser EW100 - which one??
Hi,
I was about to buy a Sennheiser EW100 wireless mike set, but then realized there are different versions of them - the G2, G3, UHF, VHF, channel 1, channel 2. Anybody know how to decipher the differences/advantages? Regards, Douglas |
They are all UHF. G3 is just being rolled out now as a replacement for G2. G2 was very good, a solid piece of kit. The kit is available in a number of different bands to suit the licensing regulations in each country. G3 does appear to have a price hike compared to the ones it replaced - but there are some technical improvements. The good thing is that discount on Sennheiser has always been rare, so anyone with old stock G2 may well want to shift them at good prices?

G3 replaces G2 and should hit the shops during the next few weeks.
G3 has a 10MHz wider switching bandwidth than G2 (42MHz as opposed to 32MHz) and - most important - the G3 camera receiver is now diversity (it uses the output cable as the second antenna). All evolution are UHF, there have never been any VHF ones. |
Hi All,
Thanks for the replies. I wonder why I saw them on sale as UHF and VHF? I think I figured out the Channel A, Channel B issue: The frequency range Channel A has a range of 518 - 554MHz Channel B has a range of 626 - 662MHz I'm sure it all depends on a variety of factors, but which is better (if one can say that)? The channel range you want depends on which frequencies are quiet (and legal) in your country and locality. Radiomics have traditionally used vacant TV channels or the white space not occupied by TV transmissions at the top end of a channel. Digital terrestrial transmissions make fuller use of the channel and the switch to digital means that TV channel allocations are changing and some are being withdrawn for other uses, so the whole radiomic frequency allocation is in flux. Talk to dealers or other users in your area to get an idea of what works now and what may be future-proof.

I suspected it might be something like that. Anybody know which (A or B) would be best for Brazil and the USA?

Are the G3's being sold in the US yet?

SennheiserUSA told me that if I went to B&H they would order. I'm not sure what the turnaround time would be but I understand it would be reasonably quick.
