Workflow: PPro + XL2 16x9
 

Hi group,

Just a quick question regarding the optimum setup to edit in PPro: XL2 16x9 24p 2:3 standard; Should this be a standard 16x9 project at 29.97 or should I be at 23.93?

The finished destination is always NTSC dvd, never film. Authored in Encore.

Most people who shoot 24p regular edit and export in a 60i timeline, to give the look of film transfered to tape. But sense your going to DVD i would suggest shooting in 24pa and edit in a 24 fps progressive timeline, and export real 24fps footage. Also, you usualy edit in the aspect ratio you shot in, unless you need to letter box 16x9 footage with 4x3 footage.

You mentioned to export at 24fps. Is that possible in PPro? As a dv avi?

Also, I suppose I should be exporting from AE at 24fps progressive also?

If your working in 16x9 you would want your AE animations and etc... to also be in 16x9. You can letter box 4x3 in 16x9 but it looks goofy. You will probably have to tweak your stills either way to get them to fit right into 4x3 or 16x9 projects. Exporting 24fps footage to avi can be best done by using the built in 24pa codec setting under micrisoft DV avi. I usally skip the export to avi, and go directly to mpeg 2 for dvd's; mostly because most media players have a hard time playing 24p avi's. Just make sure you have all your settings right when exorting either avi or mpeg2. and it should be exported as progressive if you want to make a progressive DVD.
