Steadycam plug in

Does CS5 have an internal stabilization filter like the steadymove premiere pro 1.5 had? I know it can be done in AE, just wondering if they included anything in CS5

I'm a fan of ProDad's Mercalli plug-in, which you can check out here: proDAD - Mercalli

There is nothing provided with Premiere CS5 - Steadymove was abandoned by 2d3 after CS2.

Like Oren, I too use the new Mercalli 2, and I am pleased with its performance - with CS5 you do not need to render if you have a suitable graphics card for the hardware MPE.

+1 for Mercalli v2.0 as well. It may not be the cheapest (depending on your definition of "cheap") but it does a pretty good job and has rescued me a few times. The rolling shutter compensation is useful too.

If you have the Production Suite you can stabilize your footage with Mocha.

Mercalli Problems

It works as a plugin but the Standalone version won't install. The technical support have stopped emailing me with assistance.

What is your operating system?

I have had no trouble installing the Stand-alone in Windows XP3 32 bit, and also Windows 7 64 bit, so it should install OK in anything in between!

The SAL offers more control than the plug-in, but is much less convenient in use.

Greg Clark November 11th, 2010 10:18 AM

I use XP Service Pack 2 32 bit. I also use a Matrox RT.X2 card and Adobe CS3.
Yes I thought the Mercalli SAL version would give more control but it crashes every-time when installing.

It may need XP3, a lot of software does.

The Matrox card is not an issue - I have an RTX2 on the Windows 7 system.
