Is it safe to upgrade to CS4 yet?
I am running windows vista business 64 bit, and have the Adobe creative suite CS3, I have not upgraded to CS4 because I am not sure how compatible my plug ins will be.
I have cineform Prospect HD, Magic bullet Looks, colorista. Also can I still use CS3 after I install CS4? |
Not sure about Cineform Prospect HD since I don't use it. MB Looks and Colorista work fine, as long as you set the properties to run in XP compatibility mode.
You can install CS4 alongside CS3 and use both, but be aware that removing CS3 cripples CS4 and requires a reinstall of CS4. Also CS3 projects can be opened in CS4 but there is no backward compatibility. |
Just received my computer and CS4 upgrade from my tech in Chicago. Haven't unpacked the box yet, but my tech said the bugs have all been worked out by now. It is Vista Business 64, Matrox Axio, etc.
I don't believe Matrox is compatible with Cineform, so I do not have that. I can report back in about a week as to how I like CS4, but I am looking forward to that upgrade. |
Just to backup the comment that CS3 still works once you have CS4 installed. I've found CS4 on Vista 64 quite reliable.

I've been using CS4 for a few days now on Vista 64 and I don't have any problems .
Big benefit for me is the Adobe Media Encoder. That alone makes it worthwhile for me as I do a lot of short clips for youTube. I'm using it in conjunction with Cineform Neo at the moment. Not sure if it's correct, but I'm sure I read that Cinefor HD is not compatible with CS4 yet??? |

Its just the "realtime" engine that is not implemented. |
Cineform is compatible with CS4, unless you have Matrox Axio, which I do.
Cineform IS NOT compatible with Matrox Axio. I am interested as to why more people are not using Matrox Axio with their Adobe CS3 or CS4? |
Im using the Matrox mini and have no problems with Cineform.

If you can, can you preview 24p over 60i to an HDMI monitor? Thanks! |
Harm's post is the first I've seen from anyone able to run Colorista in CS4. So...which file do you apply the compatibility mode setting to? The installer exe?
Harm's advice doesn't help in XP64 which I use presently (since it doesnt have a "XP compatibility " mode), but if that setting works in Vista that's a very cool find! (Incidentally, MB Looks works fine for me in CS4 and XP64, without any tweaks needed). |

I don't shoot 24p but I am previewing full res chd files (1920x1080) at 25p on my hdmi plasma screen via the hdmi output on the mini. With no lag or anything. I can even set the thing up as a broadcast monitor too. The built in hardware scaling is also good. Quite pleased for the price. |
I would say no, I've experienced numerous issues. Moreover, it is significantly slower upon exporting than CS3, at least on Windows Xp 32bit.
