Laptop suggestions for OnLocation
I've just got myself a copy of the new CS4 Production Suite and plan on using OnLocation at my shoots. Since i'm still in the market to buy the laptop to use it with i was wondering whether you guys can recommend what system specs i should get and what works and what doesn't. I'm not looking to break the bank with my purchase, just want a system that'll get the job done. I have an FX1 camera and predomiantly shoot in DV or sometimes HDV, but nothing more than 25Mbps. Any suggestions?

When it's not wet out, I've used my two year old Sony Vaio 2gHz Core 2 connected to an old Maxtor Lego USB drive (might only be 5400 RPM). Capturing racing HDV footage for hours on end without problems. This is with CS3
Check the minimum requirements that Adobe list for On Location and use that as your guide. I haven't used OL in any other configuration but I expect an external drive will help, so connect (your favorite USB or Firewire drive here) to your laptop and go. |
Using a Dell M1530 fully loaded.... I like it because it works.. :-)
I like it because it also has HDMI output so I can hook it up to a HD projector for say studio work.... I like it because it has a built in Blue Ray reader/writer... so I can produce great DVD's and Blu ray disks for HD... Its well built... |
