Norway and Northern Lights Clip
Hello all.
I have just posted a short clip about a recent trip to Norway to film the Northern Lights. Norway and the Northern Lights 3D Anaglyph on Vimeo My red jacket doesn't work well in anaglyph! Working with a 3D rig in temperature below -20c adds a whole world of issues such as frozen mounts, tripods and view finders. I also managed to loose the sync cable so the cameras were not synced properly. |
That would be why Santa was hard to spot among the reindeer.
Great work Alister, well done to you and your Sony EXs especially working in such conditions. |
Excellent...very inspiring work! Can't believe the EX works at those temps.

I have just re-uploaded my Iceland and Norway clips to YouTube 3D

i think here in forum, many people have better technic viewing stereo3d than anaglyph.
(shutter glass, zalman3d, projected, etc) Could you also upload some L-R sample files? thx, Marton |

i know, but how can i view it with shutterglass?
or with two projectors? |
You can view it with a Zalman by selecting row interleave. For two projectors use parallel and then span the screen across both outputs of a dual head graphics card feeding a pair of projectors.

but now i have a shutterglass with crt. Youtube 3D also support HD resolution now? what is the maximum width? and: i plan to buy a zalman, its cheap now, but whats the experience with it? is the interlaced technic disturbing for long time use? has absolutly no ghosting? thx |
The Zalman has a very narrow vertical viewing angle (i think it's only 4 degrees). I like it as I can easily show my clients 3D content in full colour. It's not perfect but better than anaglyph and easier to set up than dual projectors. The image is sharp and clear but in effect each eye only sees half the resolution.
YouTube HD is 1280x720. When you consider that the upload to YT3D is side by side the vertical resolution is in effect halved so only 640 x 720 gets displayed. |
3D monitoring with Macintosh
Hi,
which monitor would you recommend for monitoring 3D while editing with Final Cut Pro (and Stereo3D Toolbox) and G5 Quad Apple Macintosh (Power PC, no Intel)? I have a Blackmagic Decklink Card with HD-SDI out. Thanks a lot, Jürgen |
Thanks.
I have a CRT monitor with shutterglass and also can show cool 3D in full color, full resolution for the clients. I dont know, that change it to Zalman worth it or not.. "each eye only sees half the resolution." From what distance you dont see the horizontal lines? Is it good for 2D also, or have some blurred image because the filter? I'm afraid Zalman cannot work at 50Hz, but my videos are taken in 50i, so faster movement will not be very smooth. With 100Hz shutterglass is perfect. thanks and sorry for offtopic. I enjoy your video! Marton |
Very cool! I mean.. very cold.
Just out of curiosity, are those night shots realtime? Or are they timelapse? Being from Hawaii, I've never seen Northern lights and always wondered if the lights dance and sway that fast. |
Great piece of work! I don't have the glasses for this but it was still very entertaining.
