*** NX5U Firmware Update Particulars & Process ***
The update should be available to end-users within the next 7-10 days. It's an estimate and might change, sooner or later. (seems to be much sooner!) :)
The software will verify the firmware version that is on the camera and give the option of cancelling the update or continuing. Iniitial cameras are at v1 and the update changes it to v2. The camera must be plugged into the charger and AC power and will not work when using a battery, and the FMU unit cannot be attached nor any flash media installed. The issue is with the camera and not the FMU reader as discussed several weeks ago. It's a very easy step-by-step process and I'm thrilled Sony did this, rather than require everyone to ship cameras, indure downtime, and so forth. There are reasons to it so as to maintain quality control, but the update is literally fool-proof. Quick summation - turn on camera, attach via USB, follow software update prompts, reset the camera, camera updates, the end. It takes about 2-3 minutes from my findings thus far. I have been running one camera for a few hours so far, recording to both a SDHC card and FMU unit and no problems as of now. I'll be doing this with all of my cameras over the next few days. Public access to this file will be available soon so please don't ask me for it ahead of time...it's not going to happen! A link will be posted as soon as it becomes available mainstream. |

I've received this link Sony of Canada:Broadcast & Professional from our Sony rep in Montreal.
I find it is providing usefull information, it also includes serial number range for cameras that are suggested to get the firmware upgrade. Applicable North American serial number range: 110001 - 111585 : It is strongly recommended that units within this range be updated from Version 1.0 firmware to Version 2.0 firmware. I want to thank our Sony rep for their help in that manner. In the meantime, no doubt in my mind this good conclusion in finding a solution would not have been possible without the engagement to people like Marshall, Adams... in dealing with Sony directly. Thanks for the excellent work! Hopefully, this will resolve this issue once and for all. Regards!
