Testing the Mosaic Anti Alias filter with Nikon lenses & Wide Zooms
Here's a series of res charts and a bit of outdoor scenarios on nikon mount lenses and the popular tokina 11-16.
What works and what doesn't at what settings. Lenses used; Nikon 50mm f1.4 Nikon 105mm f2.8 Nikon 80-200 f2.8 Mamiya645 80mm f1.9 Sigma 20-40mm f2.8 (f mount) Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 Despite what early tests and the company saying that the filter is ok up to 20-24mm I decided to push beyond to see if I can salvage my wide lenses. This filter effectively extends the 5D mk II lifespan much longer. Those who are frustrated with the 5D's moire and color aliasing and has projects coming up or has no plans for upgrading yet, this filter is cheaper than buying a new camera. I hope you will find these tests useful. VAF-5D2 Optical Anti-Aliasing Filter Resolution Chart & Outdoor Test |

Charles and Chris, your welcome, and thanks also for watching.
Also posted this in vimeo, had to shorten the charts though as vimeo only allows 500mb hd for a free account. ;-) http://vimeo.com/tedramasola/vaf5d2test Last edited by Ted Ramasola; September 27th, 2011 at 09:26 PM. |

Re: Testing the Mosaic Anti Alias filter with Nikon lenses & Wide Zooms
I guess since the newly announced full frame canon 1D x costs around $ 7,000, getting this fix for the 5D's major issues seemed the wise investment to extend the capabilities of our current full frame sensor camera. ;-)

Re: Testing the Mosaic Anti Alias filter with Nikon lenses & Wide Zooms
Canon has a press event in New York at a photo show on October 26th and another in LA at Paramount on November 3rd. I'm holding off on the AA filter until after these events...
