Single Color in B&W Footage!!

Hi All,

Will someone please help me with this?

I have a footage that I like just to keep the lips of the lady red and the rest of the footage black & white. How can I do that in After effects I also use Vegas 7 as well.

There are various ways to do this, here's a simple one I use sometimes.

In After Effects:

Duplicate your clip on the time line
Desaturate the bottom clip so it's b&w
On the top clip draw a rough mask using the pen-tool around the lips, doesnt have to be exact just make sure it covers the lips for the duration, you may have to key frame the shape to do this.
Select the mask options on this top clip so only the rough mask arounf the lips is in colour and the rest will show the bottom clip in b&w.
Now go back to the first clip and use a colour key effect to key to just shopw the red, you may have to add another or a few to get the variations. As the keying is only working on the small masked area hopefully you wont get any spill and other areas keyed out too.

1- Use the secondary color corrector.

2- If you are picking up other colors, then use masking.

Duplicate the clip onto itself. Hold down crtl while dragging the clip onto an upper layer.

Use the bezier masking tool in Vegas.

Color Pass is pretty simple in Premiere Pro 2.0.

Just put one copy of a clip over another, apply Color Pass to the top clip, and the Black and White effect to the bottom clip. On the top clip, select the color you want to isolate, and adjust the similarity to get it all.

Usually there will be something that slightly matches that color outside of the object you wanted to isolate, and that is why you apply a sixteen-point garbage matte on the top clip so that the effect is only in the area where you need it.

Ive not tried it but i should imagine if you try to remove all colours apart from red lips certain parts of the skin on the face will disapear aswell as it has red tones in it

paint the lips green, remove all colours except green then re saturate green to make it red :)

It isn't the same as keying. Things don't disappear, they become desaturated (Black and White). That is why color pass is so useful.
