Laptop HD-SDI capture
Any experience with this:
http://www.mobl.com/expansion/produc...ion/index.html I am interested in their 1 Slot ExpressCard to PCI Expansion System, to interface my Apple 133Gz G4 17" Powerbook (with a 7200RPM HD) with a BlackMagic Decklink HD Pro Single Link - Uncompressed 12-bit HDTV SDI HD and SD Video Capture PCI-X Card with Single-Link 4:2:2 and Down Conversion and SD/HD Analog Monitoring - It seems like it will it all "fit" together, My question (not sure if anyone can answer this) is will it "work" - specifically for importing Uncompressed HD Video as Photojpeg/DVCPro HD/Sheer into Final Cut |

I don't believe you'll be able to sustain the necessary data rate to capture HD with that combination. It would likely require one of the new Macbook Pro systems.
Have a look at this link to see what's coming down the pipe. http://www.vydeo.com/products/EC34.html -gb- |

That card looks exactly what I want to buy. Now, if Final Cut and it
work together and the cost is not too expensive I think they will have a winning combo. Nice work on find that one Mr. Boston.

I called the company and asked when the product might ship. They said they couldn't say as it is being developed for a specific OEM.
Hmmm...can you say AJA/Blackmagic! Who knows when it'll actually ship though. Dang, I'm chompin' at the bit for a laptop SDI solution. |

Someone should just come up with an sdi expresscard and that would be the end of it. If you have a fast enough laptop to do real time cineform encoding that's about all there is to it.

I just found something very interesting. Aparently, the D/Dock expansion chassis for the Dell Precision M90 notebook workstation holds a pci card inside. This sounds like the perfect way to capture sdi in the field to me. The machine is a powerhouse and I bet it can do real time cineform encoding, making it an even better solution than the wafian since it does have a battery, not to mention a 1920x1200 display to monitor on. I'll have to get me one :)

Luis -
That s a beautiful find ! But do you think that a Blackmagic card can really fit in here and do the work? Too bad Dell doesn't have a store here where you could go in and get Tech answers |

The best way to get tech answers would be the dell forums. Maybe if we ask around?
All I have found out so far is that it holds a half length pci card inside and it works for many notebook models out there. It's been around for quite some time now. What I haven't been able to find out is if blackmagic and aja sdi cards are half or full length. The only full length pci card I've ever owned was a DPS Velocity that bit the dust a few years back. |

Hi,
Has anyone found out if the Dell Precision M90 notebook workstation holds an SDI pci card inside or if an ExpressCard to PCI Expansion card will work on a MacBook Pro with an SDI card? Thanks, |

I still think it is the capture/storage drive array that is going to give the portability problems.
To get portability (such as a Firestore device) you currently have to accept degrading compression like Cineform/Wafian or Sheer or accept more bulk in the drive array. |

I just stumbled across this wonderful news....
http://www.barefeats.com/hard71.html as well as, I was unaware of the recent 15" MacBook Pro changes... An even faster processor and a firewire 800 ports was added to the mix. The pieces are coming or even here... But will they work together? |
